About Us
"We're going to Japan for the first time. We're going to Tokyo and Kyoto for sure, but where else should we go?"
"Where do we eat in Bangkok? There are too many choices!"
It's questions like these that have led to us helping countless friends and family prepare for their first-time travels to Asia, and decide where to go and (very importantly) what to eat once they're there. After helping so many curious explorers discover the magic of Asian travel, our passion for uncovering the unique, unexpected and excellent in Asia inspired us to begin Jetlag & Curry.
With over 65 combined visits to our favorite Asian destinations in the last 15 years, we've learned that great travel is about more than just logistics—it's about building confidence, cultural understanding, and creating unforgettable experiences.
Why We Started Jetlag & Curry
We're Kevin and Jason Davidson, the husband and husband founders of Jetlag & Curry, and we're delighted that you've found us. We like to think of ourselves as "relentlessly curious," and it's that curiosity that has prompted our everlasting wanderlust, with a particular interest in Asia. We specialize particularly in Thailand, Singapore, and Japan—the three countries we've returned to again and again, building deep local connections and discovering hidden gems.
We travel in an effort to understand our place in the world just a little bit better, by bearing witness to others' lived experiences and hearing their stories. We place a high value on being culturally competent visitors and are passionate about sharing that ethos with others. While we always want to have a blast while we're away, we also strive to be responsible stewards wherever we go.
We're also meticulous planners who love research. Whether it's a destination we're visiting for the first or twentieth time, we want to know what the latest fine dining table is in Tokyo—or the best new $10 lunch in Bangkok. As accomplished, self-taught chefs who've hosted elaborate dining pop-ups, we bring a sophisticated palate to every recommendation. Having dined at hundreds of Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide, we know excellence when we taste it, but we're equally passionate about finding incredible experiences that don't break the bank.
If we had a dollar for every time someone has asked us, "How did you find this place?"
Meet Jason
Jason grew up in suburban Honolulu, fostering a deep familiarity with and love for Asian culture and food from a young age. Don't get him started on what most people on the US mainland consider to be poke! When you spend 17 years on a small, isolated island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, traveling back to the mainland is sometimes as international as it gets. Jason has visited 49 of the 50 US states (apologies, Alaska, you're really cold) and developed the travel bug early, too.
He's a self-taught student of Japanese and Thai cuisine, specializing in lesser-known Thai recipes and from-scratch curries that you simply can't find in most US restaurants. He's also hustling to keep up with his long-ago years of Japanese language study. Jason is a poet and performer who brings storytelling and cultural insight to every travel experience. But above all else, he'd rather be eating sushi with Kevin at their favorite counter in Tokyo. Michelin doesn't always get it right in Japan.
Meet Kevin
Kevin grew up in Northern California and his mom worked for a commercial airline. As such, he was always going somewhere as a kid. Given that those trips were often on stand-by, it was sometimes a last-minute decision as to whether it was the Chuuk Lagoon (formerly Truk Island), where he once unexpectedly ate coconut crab with the King, or New Zealand, where he and his mom learned that waiting to find accommodations on New Year's Eve might just land you overnight in a 1940’s era camper with a leaky roof. (Kevin learned to plan early!)
Kevin has worked as a health-care strategy leader, moonlighted as an experiential theatre stage manager, and loves baking bread. His business executive background brings strategic thinking to travel planning, helping clients maximize their time and experiences. But above all else, he'd rather be having dinner with Jason in Kyoto at their favorite restaurant in the world—an 8-seat kappou counter.
When We're Not Traveling
When Jason and Kevin aren't traveling and working with clients, they're at their landing pad on California's Central Coast, which they share with their small brood of four-legged children: Sphynx cats Cincinnati and Nicotine, Camelot, a boxer, and the 28-pound self-appointed CEO of the family, Fig Newton, a French Bulldog.
